Mold is something that we all hope we never have to deal with. Unfortunately those of us who have basement will find that it is much harder to avoid. Basements are normally dark and damp, making them the perfect breeding ground for various types of mold. The more we allow it to fester the more dangerous it will be to our health.
Knowing that mold is growing in your basement is the first step to getting rid of it. The good thing is that there are many things that you are able to do – which will help to remove it quickly and easily. The most important thing that you should remember is that when you remove mold you need to clean off whatever it was growing on or throw it away.
The best thing to do is to start removing small areas of where you know the mold is. Trying to remove and clean it out all at once could take you longer then you thought and prove to be a hassle. Start off by determining where the source of the problem is. This could be under the carpeting, behind the walls, or from the condensation of exposed pipes.
Some people will bring in professionals who will come into your home and take sample of the different things that they find. When they examine the sample it will help them to determine what type of mold it is. They will then come back and find where it is coming from and then proceed to remove it. The one thing that they forget to do is to clean off the area that it started in.
If your walls, ceilings, or any other hard surface came into contact with the mold or was the originating spot then you need to use a natural cleaning product that will remove the mold and disinfect it. If the upholstery was affected then try to wash it in warm water and special detergent that will remove the mold. Do not wash it with other clothes.
To make sure that you are effectively cleaning the area you can also use special basement mold removers. These are often considered to be more effective then natural cleaning products. Just be careful that you wear the necessary gloves, face mask, eye mask, and long sleeved clothes. This will protect your skin from the harsh chemicals you are working with.
