Basement Mold

Tips for removing basement mold and more.

Basements are some of the best thing to have in a home. They provide you with extra space and allow you to store spare furniture, use it as a play space for kids, or turn it into the ultimate gym. All of this is impossible to do if you are still having trouble with mold that is stuck to the ceiling.

To start off you need to sweep the ceiling off using a soft bristled broom or a dust mop. Get rid of all of the cobwebs and dust stuck to it. If it is a popcorn ceiling you might find it easier to vacuum it off.

Combine a quarter cup of dishwashing detergent with a gallon of warm water in a large bucket. Place the soft sponge inside of the cleaning solution and wipe down the ceiling. This will help to clean and disinfect the area.

Now you are able to combine a quarter cup of bleach with a gallon of water inside of a plastic container. Place a new sponge in the bleach and wash down the molded area of the ceiling.

Combine a quarter cup of laundry detergent with a gallon of water in a plastic container. Use a soft sponge and place it in the cleaner. Wash down the area and try to remove the bleach.

Now dampen a new and clean sponge in cold water and rinse down the ceiling. This will remove excess mold and cleaning solutions. Allow the ceiling to dry quickly. Otherwise you will have more mold grow back.

When you are done try to find what the source of the mold was. Any leaking pipes should be repaired. You should also try to insulate the ceiling to prevent build up of moisture.
